Rancho San Pedro
The area that includes Carson became part of the Spanish land grant Rancho San Pedro.

The Carson name
George Henry Carson married into the Dominguez family and managed the rancho that later lent the city his name.

Oil exploration begins
The first oil drilling began at Dominguez Hill on the northwest side of Rancho San Pedro.

First producing oil well
Burnham Exploration and Union Oil brought in the first producing well at Dominguez Hill.

City incorporation
Carson incorporated on February 20, creating a city government for the South Bay community.
